It is said that the owner of the game board made an agreement with the captain of the mercenaries: at a secret signal, the latter would enter the illegal players' tent at the time when there was as much money as possible on the board. To avoid being caught, the game and the money had to disappear quickly. The other players had to make a quick getaway and nobody could claim their coins. The captain was given a share of the spoils.
