This beautiful, entertaining pentalpha game for one person actually belongs in the category of patience games.
Some sources assume that the origins of the game can be found in ancient Egypt. A pentagram was discovered on the roof of the temple of Sethos I in western Thebes (Kurna), along with several other playing fields. However, it is not known how it was played at the time (around 1400 BC). The game became popular in the time of Socrates. The game is still played on Crete today.

Our board games are burnt onto leather, making them durable. And the game almost packs itself for transport. The only thing you have to do is press the game down slightly with one finger in the centre of the playing field, pull the string and the game has already packed itself. It should stay that way for transport. So all you have to do now is push the bead up to the bag that has just formed and the game is packed ready for travelling. The stone slab was dated to 1400 BC, although it is not known whether and how the game was played at that time. A game called Quirkat was mentioned in the Arabic script Kitab-el Aghani around 950 BC, but again no rules were given. It was probably brought to Spain and Portugal by the Moors, who were Islamised by the Arabs, around the year 711. It stands to reason that "El-Qirkat" became "Alquerque" there over the course of time. Finally, in the 13th century, the rules of the game were written down in a book, the "Libros de los Juegos" - the book of games. King Alfonso X had this work written and it is proven to have been played in ancient Egypt and is the predecessor of our modern-day draughts game. The aim is to capture all of your opponent's checkers by jumping over them, which even children as young as 5-6 years old understand well.

Senet is known as the ‘oldest board game in the world’. Senet was the most popular and most important board game in ancient Egypt and was played by all sections of the population. In addition to the transportable game boards, Senet games were also found carved in various places in tombs and temples, demonstrating their widespread use. More than 40 senet boards have been discovered, some in very good condition, with intact game figures and with throwing sticks, ankle bones or cube-like dice that served as dice. The oldest known depiction of a senet game set is part of a wall painting in Saqqara from the tomb of the pharaoh Hesy (III Dynasty ca 2686-2613 BC). Senet is therefore one of the oldest known board games. Unfortunately, the original rules of the game have not survived. It seems that the game was so widespread and well-known that even small children could have known it. It was probably only passed down orally, so the rules of the game had to be painstakingly reconstructed by archaeologists. The playing field comprises 3x10 squares and was decorated with different symbols over the course of time. We chose the symbols of Tutankhamun, probably the most famous Pharaoh, for this board.
Even Tut Anch Amun, probably the most famous ruler, took a game table with him into the afterlife.

Much is still unknown about the origin, age and spread of this game. There are some oriental games that are thousands of years old and parallels to backgammon are often sought, but whether this proves a relationship is questionable. Probably the first close relative of modern backgammon is the Roman Ludus duodecim scriptorum. It was widespread throughout the Roman Empire and was first mentioned by Ovid in the 8th century BC. However, the first discovery is dated to around 125 AD. The game was then further developed by the Romans into alea or tabula, which could have been played as early as the 1st century AD. From the 11th century onwards, the game spread throughout Europe and became known in Germany in the 12th century under the name Wurfzabel or Puff. The name Puff is derived from the word Pasch. The vulgar term for the brothel goes back to the name of the game that used to be played in these houses - so you went ‘to the brothel’.
